Bad Timing in Minnesota!

Wouldn’t you know it.  The state has decided to finally get off their rear ends and do some actual work in my project area.  Gotta love the timing of it all. 2 weeks before the start of the bow season, in comes the heavy equipment and work crews.  They’ve only had 2 years to get this accomplished, yet they waited until now to start.   From the sounds of it, they’ll be working back there for the next several weeks digging up the tile lines, blocking them off and digging a new branch to an exsisting drainage ditch.

The deer have reacted as expected.  POOOF…Gone!  Max has since moved to the slaughter section across the road along with the 2 1/2 year olds that accompany him.  From the looks of it,  all I have left are 2 stubborn 1 1/2 year old bucks and a yearling doe with a fawn.

Don’t get me wrong.  Long term this work will pay off dividends and create a 100 acre lake/holding pond that should become a wildlife haven.  Not only whitetails, but all forms of upland game, water fowl, turkeys and more. I just can’t stand the timing. Why weren’t they in here in June or July?  To make matters even worse, they are only going to start and finish part of the project this year.  I’ll have to go through roughly the same thing again next year, when they build the actual damns.  Just the way my luck rolls I guess.
