My 2011 season officially wrapped up yesterday. Although it was disappointing that I didn’t harvest a deer there were a lot of positives to take from it. I introduced my son to his first year of bowhunting and he also took part in the youth gun season, where he harvested his first ever doe. I also shared several of my hunts with my other two children. In September I was able to film John Dummer on his first ND bowhunt at Heart J Outfitters. Although the bigger bucks didn’t want to cooperate I had a great time sharing camp with him and laying down some great footage.
Now it’s time to start making plans for this coming Fall, think about what shows to attend and look for sheds.

Late season

I think it’s safe to say we are officially in the late season. Although we have no snow around here bitter cold temps have set in. I personally would love to see a little bit of snow. Something about seeing fresh deer tracks in the snow really excites me. It definitely makes it easier to see where the deer have been and where they are going.
Do you still have unused tags? Do you like hunting in the cold and snow? Are you prepared for what the late season has to offer? It’s a hot one!

What’s up with this weather? October 5th today and it’s 90 degrees outside. Unreal for this time of year. I’m pretty sure I know how the deer feel about moving today. Best to be looking for a nice shady spot or be watching a water source.

Off to MN

I’m heading to MN tonight for the weekend. I should arrive around 3:00 AM. Sleep for a bit and then get up and glass the back field to see which direction the deer are headed to bed. After that I’ll need to get a couple stands hung. My Dad has a ton of pics for me to look at including 4 shooter bucks. It should be a good weekend. As nice as it is we might even sneak in a little fishing.

Heart J Outfitters

Waiting for Mr. Dummer to arrive. Tomorrow morning we’re off to Heart J Outfitters in Towner ND. They have a lot of big bucks running around up there. I can’t wait to get behind the camera and film John taking his first ND buck.

So it begins!

Opening day has finally arrived. Opening day jitters have set in. Might have something to do with the lack of sleep the last few nights waiting for this day to arrive. Funny how you can be ready for so long but have so many last things to do.
It’s a beautiful day about 75 with a light SW wind. Perfect for my favorite stand.

2011 WTW Camera School

The 3rd annual Whitetailworld camera school was held at Bluff Country Outfitters in Buffalo County Wisconsin. A ton of information was shared during class time. There was a lot of hands on time with some of the more experienced classmates. I picked up a lot of new tips that I will be putting to use in a couple weeks when bow season starts.
Down time was spent shooting bows and just catching up with friends. As evenings came around everyone hit the roads or stands to put our new video knowledge to work videoing deer as they hit the fields.
As always I had a great time and it’s always worth the long drive to spend time with other WTW members.

WTW Camera School

Getting everything all packed up and ready to go to the Whitetailworld camera school. Looking forward to meeting friends and meeting some new ones. I’m hoping to pick up a few new tips and learning some of the ins and outs of my new camera. As always it’s exciting to see and get velvet footage of the monsterous bucks roaming around Buffalo County Wisconsin.

We’re down to 27 days now for the ND bow opener. Stands are all hung in strategic locations. Clothes have all been washed and stored in bags and put into totes. Arrows are all fletched and ready to spill some blood.
I finally got some good bucks on the trail cameras 2 weeks ago but they were no shows last week. It has been difficult to get pics of them all summer let alone trying to pattern them. There’s still plenty of time yet to figure it out.

It’s getting closer

It is now only 56 days till the ND bow opener. Summer is really flying by. Ryan and I have been shooting our bows regularly. The recent Whitetailworld 300 shoot helped out with that. I don’t know who is more excited for the season to start Ryan or myself. It’s going to be fun being with and videoing Ryan during his first year in the stand.
The bucks are finally starting to look real good. It always amazes me me how much and how fast they grow in such a short amount of time.
As always it brings a smile to my face when the fawns wander in front of the cameras. They are so cute and the future of our beloved sport.
